As the new fishing season approaches we will run a small series here at the blog where we present our new Power Team members for 2018. Next up is Stevie Munn from Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland. He has fly fished all his life, well from about the age of six or seven first with his late father who was also a very experienced fly fisher. He is a qualified Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructor in Fly Tying and Fly Casting with APGAI-Ireland and an APGAI fly casting instructor.
Stevie worked in the angling sector for over 20 years and has been a Professional guide and fly fisher for many years for trout, salmon and a lough run wild brown trout called the Dollaghan which runs his local rivers to spawn, that said he will fish for any fish that will take a fly He has won many fly fishing competitions though mostly now fishes for pleasure.
Stevie teaches fly casting and fly tying to all levels from beginner to advanced and has also given lessons at many schools. He has also won fly casting competitions including 2 Accuracy Casting Championships in England in the 1990s and at the CLA game fair 2011. Stevie helped set a new World record in fly casting which was done for the charity Help the Heroes. Stevie hosts fishing trips worldwide and can help you if you want to fish many of the Game angler’s paradises including Iceland, Norway and Argentina as well as his native Ireland, North and South.
Stevie fly patterns have appeared in many angling books including Malcolm Greenhalgh’s book ‘A guide to fishing flies from around the World’. He also writes articles in many angling magazines including Irish Countrysports and Country Life Magazine, Trout & Salmon, Flyfishing & Fly Tying and Chasing Silver of which he is the Field Editor in Ireland. He has fished many venues throughout the world but is most at home fishing on one of the large Irish loughs or rivers, for wild Trout, Dollaghan or Salmon.
Stevie has given fly tying and casting demos, at many game and fly fairs over the years, including the World of Fly Fishing in Germany, The CLA Game Fair in England, Angling Ireland, Irish Game Fairs, The Dutch Fly Fair, Rio Grande Fly Fishers in TDF, The British Fly Fair and The Irish Fly Fair which he runs.
