The LPXe series is buried deep inside our DNA and part of the soul of Guideline. In 2017 this classic series went through a total renewal of actions, materials and design and for the 2020 season we have added six new exciting models which makes this fly rod series even more complete and carries a total of 22 different fly fishing rods!

About the new models 2020
The new 10´ #6 rod and the two 10’6 rods we have designed for the typical lake fishing that so many loves in the UK. These rods are also excellent for river fishing after trout, seatrout and salmon and works flawless with both weight forward lines and shooting heads like ULS or Ultra Compact.
The three new double hand fly rod models we believe will become classics as the rest. 13´ #7/8 is based on the action of the #8/9, light, crispy and a first choice for smaller rivers. 14’ #10/11 is developed from the #9/10 and are a real power horse for the largest fish and biggest flies. Typical rod for early season fishing in medium to large rivers. 15’ #9/10 is a totally new length and action which we hold as an new, potential all-rounder in this series.
LPXe Properties
These fly rods are crisp, light, fast (but 3/4 deep loading), well balanced and they carry a raw, stealthy finish that will impress in every detail. By incorporating new graphite structures and cutting patterns we have improved the strength of the rods and the recovery speeds in the blanks are better than ever. Continuing on the guide-design features of the RSi saltwater series, we have fitted Fuji KW stripping guides on these rods as well. The reduction of tangles with these unique frames is amazing and the fact that the KW offers the coolest look in fly guides today is an added bonus.
All rods feature single leg guides throughout the rest of the blank and to us that minimizes weight and unnecessary stiffening of the blank and adds to its performance. Lightweight, yet strong reel seats with customized details all through, match the classic semi-matte, slightly transparent blanks perfectly. Grip lengths, shapes and diameters are also new. LPXe fly rods come in an Air-Mesh rod bag and a strong lightweight tube.

This article reminds me of an anecdote from this past week end during the Guideline Open Day at The Fly Center shop in Madrid.
One of the anglers attending the event came to me to solve a doubt.
—When trying to cast long I have problems with my LPXe.
—Really?— I said —Sounds strange; which model do you have?
—The 9’ #4.
—Good. We have one LPXe 9’ #4 here already rigged and ready to use.
Then I had the pleasure of showing him that it wasn’t the rod or the line what was causing problems when casting far, but just technique (or the lack of it).
Great rod indeed!
